The White defeated the Black team three games to two at Pearl City High School. If I remember right the White came from behind to win the first game, got thumped in the next two games, got the lead and held on to win the fourth game. They took a good sized lead in the fifth game, but Black came back to tie it. White finally prevailed at the end, something like 18-16. I would guess there were about 200-300 in attendance.

Here's some notes:

High jumping Jeff Gleason played very sparingly as Jose Delgado's sub. I suspect he may be dealing with an injury as he wore two ankle braces and only took a few swings in warmups. Delgado looks like the real deal showing both heat and touch (almost like Costas). Brian Nordberg is a transfer from UCSB and may have the early inside track at middle block over the freshman Delano Thomas who has potential, but is still a bit raw.

Eyal played all the way as the libero for the White team. Matt Bender showed some hitting and passing ability. Denitz played hitter as it looks like Rasay will be the backup setter this year.

Marvin drew notice with his Rambo hairdo. Costas, Tony, Geronimo, and Imai sat out the game with injuries. I heard Geronimo broke his leg when Jose fell on him during practice. The other new name was Ryan Woodward who played outside. Rob Drew was looking pretty good roaming the sidelines. Stanhiser was walking in and out of the gym, so I don't know if he's with the team or not. Andrea sang the national anthem and sat with Jessica in the stands.

I consider the White squad's victory (coached by Tino) as an upset since the Black team (coached by Aaron) featured returning starters Kimo, Dejan, and Vernon; plus they had Sivan, Delgado, Muise, Woodward, and Gleason.

The White squad was led by Torry, Bender, Eyal, and Rasay. The other outside hitter was Kyle and the middles were Norberg and Thomas. Marvin saw some brief action in the back row.

The mochiko chicken (I heard it was made by Stephanie Shota) was quite tasty and only $4.50.
