Assistant Coach Tino Reyes

In his eighth year as head coach Mike Wilton's first assistant is Tolentino "Tino" Reyes. The Molokai native is also in his 10th year overall at the University of Hawai'i.

Prior to his current position with the Rainbow men, Reyes served two years as an assistant to women's head coach Dave Shoji with the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team.

Currently with the men's team, Reyes' primary responsibilities include handling the setters and defensive plays. Under his guidance, Erik Pichel earned first team All-American honors in 1996, Curt Vaughan became the school's all-time career assists leader in 1997, and Mason Kuo became just the sixth player in UH men's volleyball history to amass 2,000 career assists.

Off the court, Reyes shares recruiting and traveling duties with Wilton. To ensure Hawai'i gets the most sought-after recruits, Reyes travels to national and international tournaments on the lookout for prospective Rainbows.

In addition, Reyes assists, in the off-season, with the Rainbow men's summer camp for volleyball enthusiasts of all ages.

A long time associate of Wilton since the 1970's, Reyes began his partnership with Wilton at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Wilton headed the nationally ranked women's volleyball program while Reyes served as an assistant coach.

In addition to his position at Cal Poly, Reyes was an assistant at Southern Illinois and Weber State before returning to Hawai'i in the mid 1980's. He has also served as head coach at Oregon State and Chaminade.

Reyes earned his degree at Cal Poly SLO in 1984 where he played one year of collegiate volleyball.

Tino and his wife, Susan, have four children, Jaylan Kainoa, Ryan Kapono, Jonah Nainoa and Emma.
