WESTWOOD, California, April 21, 1997 – BYU (20-5), Stanford (23-3), UCLA (22-3) and UC Santa Barbara (17-8) will vie for the championship of the 1997 PowerBar/Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men’s Volleyball Championship Tournament, live this Saturday evening, April 26th at 7:30 p.m. PST, 10:30 p.m. EST, across America and around the world, via satellite, from UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion, live on The Cable Radio Network and Audionet.

BYU will challenge Stanford, with UCLA battling UC Santa Barbara in semi-final competition Thursday evening, with the winners advancing to the PowerBar/MPSF Men’s Volleyball Championship Tournament finals on Saturday. The tournament winner automatically advances to next week’s NCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship Semi-Finals at Ohio State University.

Olympic sportscaster Jeff Ruffolo will call the play-by-play with Mitch Lehman providing the color commentary. PowerBar www.powerbar.com is the broadcast title sponsor.

In PowerBar/MPSF Men’s Volleyball Championship Tournament Quarterfinal action last Saturday in Provo, BYU outlasted Hawaii 3-2 (13-15, 6-15, 15-11, 15-12, 15-13); at Pauley Pavilion, UCLA swept Pacific 3-0 (15-8, 15-7, 15-10), at The Pyramid, UC Santa Barbara defeated Long Beach State 3-0 (15-8, 15-5, 15-11) and at Burnham Pavilion, Stanford downed Pepperdine (15-13, 15-9, 15-13).
