The 16th-ranked Rainbow Wahine hit the road last weekend for the second time this year and returned with a pair of wins over Fresno State and San Jose State. Hawaii, riding an 11-match winning streak, improved to 17-4 overall and 9-0 in the WAC.
At Fresno Thursday the Wahine held off a scrappy Bulldog squad in four games for a 15-3, 15-11, 13-15, 15-4 victory. Therese Crawford, Cia Goods and Heidi Illustre put on a show for the second-largest crowd at an FSU women's volleyball match (1,692). The trio buried 40 kills and registered 38 digs to carry Hawaii. Illustre also added four service aces.
The Wahine completed their road swing Saturday
in San Jose with a 15-5, 14-16, 15-4, 15-7 victory over the Spartans.
Again it was Crawford who led the Bows. The senior outside hitter
smashed 24 kills, her second-best career output. Meanwhile, Goods
12 blocks against San Jose State gave her 501 for her career,
placing her third on the all-time Wahine blocking list and ahead
of former All-American Deitre Collins.
