UH: One of the most solid back court specialist in the WAC and possibly the entire West Coast...Head Coach Dave Shoji calls "her one of the best he has ever instructed."
1995: Extensively used as a defensive specialist...very tough jump serve came up with 16 aces during the year...managed four kills from beyond the three-meter line...posted six games with double figures in digs, including a season-high 15 vs. UC Santa Barbara on November 11.
COLORADO STATE: A walk-on who earned two letters for the Rams...listed as an outside hitter but used mainly as a backrow specialist and a primary passer...set a freshman dig record with 270...in her sophomore season had career-highs in kills (12) and aces (3) both against Pittsburgh as well as 29 digs vs. Texas.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 1992 graduate of Doherty High School in Colorado Springs, Colo...earned letters in volleyball her junior and senior seasons...during her junior and senior years, she was selected as the Gazette Telegraph's Player-of-the- Week once and was the 6A Volleyball Player-of-the-Year in Colorado...named to Volleyball Monthly's High School All-American team...selected to the Mizuno All-Star team...played for Pike's Peak Junior Olympic Volleyball Club...was on the 16-under championship team at UC Davis in 1989-90...played her freshman season at Maui High garnering all-star honors...her sophomore year, she went to Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu where she earned All-Star and second-team All-State kudos.
PERSONAL: Full name is Nalani Mikihala Yamashita...born Feb. 11, 1974, in Wailuku, Maui...pursuing a degree in sociology...favorites are black, pasta, and the movie Malcolm X...her uncle is Keali'i Reichel, a popular local singer in Hawai'i...enjoys beach volleyball, weightlifting, and racquetball...has two sisters--Twaila and Tanya...Twaila is a member of the Hawai'i Pacific University volleyball team, and Tanya is a member of the Lady Gauchos volleyball team at UC Santa Barbara...daughter of Norinne Quinsaat of Paia, Maui, and Thomas Yamashita of Pukalani, Maui.
